The Los Torreones Lodge is located in Chile's 11th Region. The fly fishing season begins the 2nd Friday of October and runs to the 1st Sunday of May, during which time many different types of fly fishing opportunities are present to the Angler .
October/November
Early Spring fly fishing finds many 11th Region Rivers prime for fishing. With glacier fed rivers and spring creeks running high and clear, there is better access to big fish that may become spooky mid season. The lakes after ice out can be at their best. The most effective techniques are streamers fished on sink-tip lines, but nymph fishing can be productive. The take can be quite aggressive, producing some of the biggest fish of the year. Having not seen artificial flies for months, the fish seem more willing at this time of year.
December/Januarv
December is similar to June in the US Rockies. Days become longer and temperatures warmer. Insects are on the move, and the "winged version" begins to play a bigger part in the trout's diet.
The first sight of, 'heads", browns and bows rising to caddis, occurs during these months. Nymphing and dry fly fishing become more consistent, but don't put away the streamers. All of the many fly fishing opportunities, including lakes, rivers and spring creeks, come together at this time.
